GLD Leather Solvent ND - Caution: Use this product at your own risk.
Good Luck Dude...
GLD has affectionately been named "Good Luck Dude" by our team after our friend Mark from Remarkable detailing dropped that one liner on us at the COLOURLOCK training we hosted here at Sky's the Limit Car Care. As Lars and Brian from COLOURLOCK were teaching us all about leather care and repair, LARS went over how powerful of a product GLD is which prompted Corey to ask "What does GLD stand for"? To this, Mark responded "GOOD LUCK DUDE!" From that point forward it has indeed been referred to as "Good Luck Dude!" around here.
While that name was a bit of a joke it really encompasses the first thing one should realizer with this product. If you are new to leather care or detailing and simply looking for a cleaner then this is NOT the product for you! Please purchase the COLOURLOCK Mild Leather Cleaner or in some cases the Strong. GLD on the other hand is a tool with a very specific skillset... One that should be utilized for COLOURLOCK Fluid Leather repairs or for situations where all you can say is "Good Luck Dude" because you already tried everything else...
Available in both a 40ml pen applicator and a 250ml bottle, COLOURLOCK GLD also excels at removing deeply penetrated ink stains as well as jean dye transfer and discolorations that have penetrated the surface. This generally happens on lightly colored smooth leather where discoloration occurs from distinct colored clothing, belts, and jeans. These stains are common on leather upholstery both in the home and in vehicles. If such a stain is not removed quickly, the dye will penetrate the surface and become impossible to remove with regular cleaners. The GLD solvent ND may be used to attempt the removal of such stains when gentler cleaners have failed. GLD works by slightly melting the surface and opening all pours.
Please note that this item is used ONLY at your own risk. We will not be held responsible for its use. If you purchase this product, you are 100% responsible for your use of this product and your knowledge towards its use.
Features:
- Removes jean dye transfer.
- Aids in leather repair.
Available:
- 40ml Pen
- 250ml Bottle
Instructions:
- Depending on the material, start by attempting to clean the stain with Leather Cleaner Strong or appropriate cleaner. If unsuccessful then consider the use of GLD.
- Always test on a hidden area first! Some surfaces are easily dissolved, while others react more subtly. Carelessness with GLD ND can worsen the problem. Some leather dye may also be removed while trying to remove the discoloration, which will be visible on the cloth. Be cautious not to completely remove the color layer.
- Apply a little GLD ND to a microfiber cloth and carefully clean the surface.
- When using GLD ND, the upper layer of leather color is dissolved. If color removal occurs or the discoloration cannot be fully eliminated, these areas must be retouched with suitable Leather Fresh dye.
- In approximately 50% of cases, GLD ND alone is sufficient and color matching is unnecessary. The more severe the discoloration, the higher the likelihood of requiring color matching with COLOURLOCK Leather Fresh dye. If a dye kit is needed email our team at service@carpro-us.com to order a kit.
- To prevent further discoloration, regularly protect the surface with COLOURLOCK Leather Shield. This product reduces dye penetration into the surface. To be safe, treat all previously unaffected contact surfaces with the leather shield.
GLD Pen Application for leather repair use:
- Open the cap of the COLOURLOCK GLD Solvent ND Pen 40 ml and press down the felt tip several times, so that it soaks up the GLD Solvent. Dab off any excess with a piece of cloth. Carefully dissolve the dried Liquid Leather repair, smooth it down and let it dry again. Always work gently and with a small amount of GLD Solvent. Too much liquid causes the repair to "blur".
- This process can be repeated as many times as required, until you are satisfied with the result.
- The felt tip of the COLOURLOCK GLD Solvent ND Pen 40 ml can be taken out in case of soiling or wear and be flipped 180 to expose a fresh applicator tip.
